Hi! My name is Anne Benson, and I can't express to you how excited I am to begin this next year in kindergarten. I can't help but think 'where has the time gone'? It's hard to believe, but I am about to embark on my EIGHTEENTH year of teaching (twelve years in kindergarten and six years in first grade). Either way, I am thrilled to be your child's teacher! It's going to be a fun year filled with lots of learning and new adventures, and I can't wait to see what the year has in store for us. I look forward to learning about all of you, but first I'm going to tell you a few things about me.
I grew up in Harlan, Iowa and am the second oldest of FIVE! I have one older brother (Jonathan) and three younger sisters (Christy, Amy, and Kelsey). My sister, Christy, is an ophthalmologist, who lives in Des Moines. My sister Amy is married to Chris, and they have a golden-doodle and live in Omaha. My sister Kelsey is married to Jacob and they have three beautiful daughters named Evelyn-5, Emerson-4, and Ella-3. My brother and his wife have four beautiful girls (Ashley-15, Hannah-14, Natalie-9, and Kiersten-7). My nieces are the lights of my life. I am also the proud owner of a dog named Gus. He just had his 8th birthday, and he keeps me pretty busy! Gus loves snuggles, treats, and chew toys! Here are some pictures of me and my family, and of course, my dog!

Once I graduated from high school, I moved to Cedar Falls where I graduated with an elementary education degree from UNI...go Panthers! Several years ago, I graduated from Doane College with my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Since getting my masters, I have discovered how much I love to learn. So much so, I have continued taking classes.
You will quickly learn that teaching is my ultimate passion! I love what I do, and I enjoy helping ALL students grow and learn to achieve their maximum potential. I believe every child is capable of greatness. It’s my job to foster my students’ abilities and to help them tap into their gifts and talents. Reading is definitely my favorite subject to teach, but writing is a close second. I look forward to beginning guided reading groups as the year progresses. I also enjoy teaching math and science.
Besides working with kids, I have a passion for spending time with people, especially my family and friends. A few years ago, I discovered a new love of exercising when I joined a CrossFit gym. Ever since then, I have enjoyed pushing myself and getting in shape. Music is another passion of mine. I love to sing and play the guitar. I am not very good at playing, but the best thing about teaching kindergarten is my students don’t know how bad I really am! Travel is something else I love to do. I love seeing the world and experiencing new cultures, sights, and sounds. I can’t get enough of it! This past few summers, I traveled to Canada and the summer before that, I went to Europe (Germany, Italy, and Switzerland). Every country was so incredibly beautiful! I enjoyed sightseeing and eating lots of amazing cultural food.
In addition to all of my travels, I completed several home projects on the house I bought a little over six years ago. I enjoy decorating and making it feel like HOME. As busy as my summer has been, I still made time for one of my favorite past times: reading. It felt so great to finally read some of the books on my reading list.
As a new school year begins, I am excited to get to know each family. I especially look forward to getting to know these new students of mine, for it is they who will make a difference in my life. My only hope is that I can also make a difference in their lives.
